How to arrange your cushions

Once you have your set, here are a few simple rules that always work:

• Odd numbers look better. Three cushions on a two-seater sofa, five on a three-seater. It's a small thing that makes a big difference.
• Vary the size if you can. A mix of 45cm and 60cm cushions adds depth and interest.
• Put the boldest colour at the back. Layer from largest to smallest, with the boldest design furthest from the viewer.
• Don't match too perfectly. A set gives you a palette — but you don't need to line them up symmetrically. A relaxed, slightly asymmetric arrangement always looks more considered.
